The ICC Champions Trophy is a one day international (ODI) cricket tournament organised by the International Cricket Council(ICC), second in importance only to theCricket World Cup. It was inaugurated as theICC Knock Out Tournament in 1998 and has been played approximately every two years since. Its name was changed to the Champions Trophy in 2002

Some fact about ICC champions trophy


  1. Icc champion trophy was originally called knock out tournament  
  2. Until 2006 the tournament was held every two years. After 2006 it was scheduled to be played in Pakistan in 2008. But due to security reasons the Pakistan tournament was cancelled to be held in South Africa in 2009. Since then it is being held at a difference of four years.
  3. India and Australia are the countries to win most number Champions Trophy. Both won the title two times. Australia won it consecutively in 2006 and 2009 whereas India won the trophy in 2002 and 2013.
  4. England cricket team is the only team to play finals twice without winning the match.
  5.     Pakistan team is the only to enter three semi-finals without proceeding to finals in Champions Trophy.


  6. Sri Lanka is the only host country to win the Champions trophy on its own land. Although it shared the title of winner in 2002 with India; the final re-match got cancelled because of rain.
  7.   The United States, Netherland and Kenya are the only three non-test-playing countries to havebeen participated in Champions Trophy.
